A Paranormal Hot-Spot
What do (a) a controversial "crashed UFO story; (b) anomalous black cats; (c) Bigfoot; (d) a werewolf; (e) a band of occultists; and (f) weird, flying balls of light all have in common?
The answer: they have all been seen/encountered in the direct vicinity of the small Texas town of Aurora.
In other words, we're talking about one of John Keel's "window areas."
It's a story I tell over at Mysterious Universe.

Going Offline
I'll be offline from later today and back online at the weekend. So, as all the comments at this blog have to be moderated, don't whine and stamp your feet if you don't see your comment until Sunday.
Roswell Slides and Shady Characters
That's the subject of my new Mysterious Universe article, which focuses on the controversial lives of two guys who got involved in the crashed UFO controversy back in the 1940s and who are now (even after death) playing a role in the saga of the so-called Roswell Slides. Their names: Leo Gebauer and Silas Newton.
Here's the link.

Gray Barker & the MIB: AUDIO
Fans of the Men in Black mystery, don't miss this: a new audio edition of Gray Barker's classic, 1956 study of the MIB phenomenon, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers, is now available as an audio-book.
Check it out.
Is Bigfoot Subterranean?
Just maybe, it is. It's a subject I tackle over at Mysterious Universe...
Why the Ramones cover? Well, it's a great album and has the word "Subterranean" in the title. That's a good enough connection to give the mighty Ramones a plug.

Monster Hunters - New Book
Monster Hunters is a new book from Tea Krulos, one which I've written a blurb for. My blurb sums up what I think of the book:
“Tea Krulos’s Monster Hunters is not your average ‘seen-it-all-before’ study of Sasquatch, aliens, and creepy critters. It’s an eye-opening, witty, and insightful look at the people who have dedicated their lives to solving some of the world’s biggest mysteries. In many ways, the characters Krulos crosses paths with are as unique and fascinating as the ‘things’ they seek!”
You should read this one when it goes on sale (on June 1); it's a good, solid, eye-opening and fun read. Very thought-provoking, too!
Here's where you can find out more about the book.
Slithery Serpent or Secret Submarine?
That's the question raised in my new Mysterious Universe article - on a certain American lake monster...

Seeking the Chupacabra
A blast from the past!
Paul Kimball of Red Star Films has posted footage of a trip we made to Puerto Rico in 2005, in search of the truth of the Chupacabra. This was the second of now many trips to Puerto Rico I've made in search of the creature, the most recent in 2013. And all of which will be discussed in my book, Chupacabra Road Trip, coming in September.
UFOs and U.S. Presidents
I haven't seen Larry Holcombe's new book, The Presidents and UFOs, but as soon as I've read it there will be a review right here.

Roswell Slides: A Murky Development
Well, now this is very interesting.
I mentioned yesterday that a legitimate link has been found between Hilda and Bernerd Ray and Silas Newton.
It turns out, now, that someone is already trying to derail this development by providing what is alleged to be further evidence of that Ray-Newton connection.
It took me about 2 minutes to prove the new paperwork is a legitimate document concerning Newton that has been altered to imply a Newton-Ray link.
Of course, it's important to note that this document has no bearing on the legitimate data on the Newton-Ray link which I discussed here yesterday.
But, had this faked material been promoted as genuine, then it would have raised questions about the other material - which is, without doubt, the real deal. No doubt, that was the intention.
So, to the faker: too bad, you're gonna have to try harder.

Too Hasty on the Roswell Slides?
Well, a couple of weeks ago I wrote an article for Mysterious Universe on why I thought the so-called "Roswell Slides" showed nothing stranger than a mummy. I'm still not ruling it out, but there is now another, new development in this saga that is ongoing and which is worth noting.
Information has now surfaced demonstrating a pre-Roswell connection between the Rays and none other than Silas Newton. We have Rich Reynolds to thank for this.
And in case you're wondering who Newton was, well, he was a notorious character who was one of the chief players in the equally notorious "UFO crash" at Aztec, New Mexico in 1948.
Newton also had an impressive history of swindles and cons - to the extent that there is an eye-opening FBI file on the man, which can be found at the FBI's website, The Vault.
Newton was always very cagey about where (and from who) he got the story of Aztec's "little men" from the stars. And - of course - that Newton is now linked to the saga of the Roswell Slides only increases the controversy - rather than lessens it. If I was to play Devil's advocate, I could speculate that the Rays were Newton's sources.
And there is something else, too, worth noting in the saga of Silas Newton.
Although the Aztec affair has attracted the attention of numerous UFO researchers over the years, it’s a fascinating piece of documentary evidence relative to the Aztec case that surfaced in the late 1990s I wish to bring to your attention - extracts from a journal written by Silas Newton around 1970/71.
It came thanks to the late, investigative author and former CIA employee, Karl Pflock, and it is a journal that may ultimately shed more important light on the psychological warfare angle of the crashed UFO mystery.
Pflock (whose photo appears at the top of this page, taken by me in Aztec, in 2003) stated:
“In 1998, under curious circumstances, I was made privy to a fascinating document about one of the most controversial cases of the Golden Age of Flying Saucers, the so-called Aztec crash of 1948. I had little more than passing interest in the case until 1998, when a source, who insists on complete anonymity, showed me a handwritten testament, set down by the key player in this amazing, often amusing, truth-is-stranger-than-fiction episode. The contents of this ‘journal’ seem to lift the veil of mystery and uncertainty from important aspects of the case, while at the same time drawing it more closely around others.”
The story as told to Pflock was that the military was keeping a secret and close watch on Silas Newton when his tales of the Aztec UFO crash were at their height. More remarkably, military personnel were dispatched to visit Newton and told him something amazing: they knew his 1948 Aztec story was complete bullshit, but, incredibly, they wanted him to keep telling it!
According to Newton, when writing in his journal about his clandestine Air Force visitors:
“They grilled me, tried to poke holes in my story. Had no trouble doing it and laughed in my face about the scientific mistakes I made. They never said so, but I could tell they were trying to find out if I really knew anything about flying saucers that had landed. Did not take those fellows long to decide I did not. But I sure knew they did.”
In view of the revelations that the USAF encouraged Newton to continue championing the Aztec incident (or non-incident!), Karl Pflock wondered:
“Did the U.S. Government or someone associated with it use Newton to discredit the idea of crashed flying saucers so a real captured saucer or saucers could be more easily kept under wraps? Was this actually nothing to do with real saucers but instead some sort of psychological warfare operation?”
The questions are many. And, with a Ray-Silas Newton connection now made, the questions are likely to keep growing.
And, finally...
Pure, controversial speculation, but...
Silas Newton was heavily involved in underground mining projects, and Bernerd Ray was a geologist - geologists being a group of people whose work often takes them underground.
This begs the question: why would the Rays be brought in to see the bodies? Maybe because of Bernerd's work.
Maybe, then, the creatures weren't extraterrestrial. Maybe they were from...below.
Something akin to Mac Tonnies' Cryptoterrestrials theory...

Not A New Book
Received in the mail a few days ago, my newly-published Top Secret Government Archives.
It's important for me to note that this is NOT a new book.
It's a new edition of my For Nobody's Eyes Only book.
The only differences are that (A) this is a new edition published by Rosen Books (the original was published by New Page Books); (B) it has a new cover; (C) it has been retitled; and (D) it's in hardback, whereas the original was paperback.
But, if you already have FNEO, you already have this one, too.
Just needed to warn everyone, so they'll know what they are buying!

Ghostly Plesiosaurs...
Yep, that's the topic of my new Mysterious Universe article.
It begins...
"Imagine crossing the moors and hills of England and encountering what looks like nothing less than a living, breathing pterodactyl! Think it couldn’t happen? It already has. From 1982 to 1983, a wave of sightings of such a creature – presumed extinct for tens of millions of years – occurred in an area called the Pennines, better known as the 'backbone of England.'
"So far as can be determined, thanks to the research of Jenny Randles, the first sighting occurred in September 1982. That was when a man named William Green encountered at Shipley Glen a large, gray colored creature, which possessed a pair of leathery-looking wings. The latter point is notable, since it effectively rules out a significantly sized feathery bird, and does indeed place matters into a pterodactyl category."
Walker Stalker Convention - This Weekend
If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, you should come along to this weekend's Walker Stalker Convention which promises to be a great event! There will be more than a few cast members from The Walking Dead, and plenty of vendors and booths. And I'll have a table, signing and selling copies of my The Zombie Book. Come along!
Here's where you can find all the info.

Adios to the Roswell Slides
That's the subject of my new Mysterious Universe article, which starts...
"The controversy surrounding what have become known as the “Roswell Slides” has been going on for more than a couple of years now. It began as a trickle of whispers, rumors, and conversations with various sources, some known and others still unknown. Then it hit the Net. There was debate back and forth. Opinions were voiced. And there was the still-unresolved matter of computer hacking, in the summer of 2014, in relation to the story. But, now, in March 2015, there’s something else.
"Check out the latest blog-posts and comments at Kevin Randle’s A Different Perspective, Rich Reynolds’ UFO Conjecture(s), and Paul Kimball’s The Other Side of Truth. It’s not an exaggeration to say that all-out, bloody war has practically erupted within the field of Ufology. The only things absent are incoming missiles, drone strikes, and panzer divisions on the horizon. There are the believers, the doubters, the middle of the road crowd, and those who find the whole thing downright bizarre. And, in certain cases, views are changing. Which brings me to the point of this article."

Thoughts on the Roswell Slides
There is one thing about the "Roswell slides" which I think is important, but which seldom gets mentioned. If you agree (or disagree!) let me know.
I don't know if the US Government does have alien bodies on ice or doesn't. But what I do know is that in nearly all the reports of alien bodies held at military installations, the bodies are generally described as being preserved, cryogenically or otherwise.
But the "Roswell slides" appear to show a body that is not being subjected to any kind of preservation, but is placed in a glass case where it's clearly on display. And meant to be on display, too.
Regardless of what it shows, it's that issue which makes me now think this body is not alien. The way in which such a unique specimen would be handled (if alien) would be to maximize preservation, not to "display" it in a glass case, and in a fashion where there is clearly no evidence of preservation techniques.
Agree or not?
Morag the Monster
And another new Mysterious Universe article from me. This one is on a certain Scottish lake monster. And, no, it's not Nessie...

Flying Saucers & the 3 Men
For those who may be interested, Albert Bender's Men in Black-themed book, Flying Saucers and the Three Men, is now available in an audio edition. 5-hours-plus!
Roswell - Moving On To Something Else
My new Mysterious Universe article focuses on why it might be better to let Roswell rest as the enigma it surely always will be, and focus on some other, equally intriguing, cases, such as the Kecksburg, PA case of 1965 - which celebrates its 50th anniversary this coming December.
