The Beast of Loch Morar

Everyone  has heard of Scotland's most famous cryptid: Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster (or, monsters, if they exist - since there clearly can't be just one).

But, it's a seldom discussed fact that Loch Ness is not the only Scottish lake with a monster tradition attached to it. Take, for example, Loch Morar, said to be the home of the menacing Morag.

In some respects, the stories coming out of Loch Morar are more intriguing than those from Loch Ness.

And here's a newly surfaced account from Loch Morar. It describes an incident that occurred many years ago, but which was recently provided to Roland Watson, who shares the facts at his excellent Loch Ness Mystery blog.

Nessie on Land...

Although the overall mystery of the Loch Ness Monsters fascinates me, the one issue that really intrigues me is that of the beasts allegedly being seen on land - and possibly even feeding on land too!

As to why I mention this right now: Roland Watson has an excellent new post on this very issue over at his Loch Ness Mystery blog.

"It is back to this blog's occasional series on land sightings and there is one interesting aspect to the Loch Ness Monster on land and that is its role as hunter. Of the thirty five alleged land cases I know about, three are reported with an indication of prey being carried away.

 

"Now sightings of a large creature in Loch Ness are interesting, stories of this monster lumbering about on land are even more fascinating. But stories of the monster helping itself to cows, sheep, deer and other animals around the loch boggles the mind and may make some a bit wary of  wild camping along secluded parts of the shore! Critics have often complained there are not enough fish in the loch to sustain a group of large predators, but what about on land? It is now time to indulge in some wild speculation!"

 

 

 

Multiple Nessies

There aren't many sites or blogs I check out every day, but one I do is Roland Watson's blog on the Loch Ness Monster.

Right now Roland has an excellent new article on an issue that doesn't get touched on that much: witness reports of more than one Nessie seen at any given time and, just occasionally, even three!

Nessie and the Paranormal

Over at the Loch Ness Mystery blog, there's an excellent new post that focuses on the issue of whether or not legendary Nessie-seeker, Tim Dinsdale, thought there might be a paranormal angle to the beast of the loch.

As "Glasgow Boy" notes in his post:

"What seems certain is that Tim Dinsdale did not shut the door on a paranormal Loch Ness Monster and he had tales to tell of Loch Ness which I suspect are now lying in a box or folder somewhere crying out to be told to the world! Sadly, it is probably safe to assume that if such material does exist, it will go the way of other Loch Ness research and never see the light of day again."
