The Chupacabra: A 25th "Anniversary"

That's the subject of my new article. It starts like this:

"So far as can be determined, the menacing Chupacabra first surfaced in March 1995, twenty-five years ago. That was when numerous animals – mainly goats – were found dead in the towns of Morovis (located in central Puerto Rico) and Orocovis, which is situated within the La Cordillera Central mountain range. Locals were plunged into states of near-hysteria by the attacks, which reportedly left animals dead, with strange marks on their necks, and a distinct lack of blood in their corpses. At least, that was the rumor. Since many of the early attacks were on goats, the term, “Chupacabra,” was created. It translates as “goat-sucker.” Matters really began in August 1995. That was when a woman named Madelyne Tolentino – who lived in Canovanas, which is close to the northeast coast of Puerto Rico – changed everything. Madelyne’s description of the creature she encountered, close to her mother’s home, was disturbing, to say the very least. It was a description eagerly embraced by the island’s media and by investigators of monsters and mysteries."

Chupacabra Road Trip: Article

Over at the website of Llewellyn Publications, you can find a new article from me on the Chupacabra.

Llewellyn have just published (Sept. 8) my book, Chupacabra Road Trip, and so the article coincides with the book release.

The article covers 3 theories for what the Puerto Rican Chupacabra may be, all of which I have heard time and again while visiting the island.

Of course, the mystery still exists and, as I note in my book, there may well be several explanations for what has, collectively, become known as the Chupacabra.

Profiling the Russian Chupacabra

My new book, Chupacabra Road Trip, focuses primarily on my expeditions to seek out the legendary chupacabra across Puerto Rico, the United States, and Mexico, and from 2004 to the present day.

As I also note in the book, however, there is no shortage of reports of the Goat-Sucker from Russia – an issue that often gets eclipsed by the exploits of the far more famous Puerto Rican original.

Seeking the Chupacabra

A blast from the past! Paul Kimball of Red Star Films has posted footage of a trip we made to Puerto Rico in 2005, in search of the truth of the Chupacabra. This was the second of now many trips to Puerto Rico I've made in search of the creature, the most recent in 2013. And all of which will be discussed in my book, Chupacabra Road Trip, coming in September.

"Arecibo Project" Researchers Make Contact with ET in Puerto Rico?

Boqueron, Puerto Rico (August 18, 2014) -- An independent group of researchers in Puerto Rico believe they possibly made contact with "beings from elsewhere" last Friday, August 15, 2014, 37th anniversary of the mysterious "WOW! Signal" captured by SETI.

The "Arecibo Project," led by Joshua P. Warren, Director of the Bermuda Triangle Research Base, spent the day transmitting radio messages into outer space from Arecibo, Lajas, and other parts of the island, asking ET to appear around certain GPS coordinates as a live webcam streamed footage of the general location.

A variety of anomalies were captured on camera, including a "saucer-shaped object" that appeared then shot straight up into the sky, accompanied by a strange, high-pitched tone.

Warren's team compared that tone to the famed WOW! Signal, and say it is so similar they think the UFO possibly sent this signal to them as a sign of successful communication.

"We believe the UFO may have sent us the same type of signal that came from space, and was recorded by SETI, 37 years ago. This was a complete surprise. Though it was picked up via a webcam microphone, and not a broad dish like SETI had, our analysis thus far has shown it is essentially a demodulated signal from the WOW! transmission turned into audio."

The message sent into space, an invitation for contact, was recorded by George Noory, host of "Coast to Coast AM" the largest overnight radio program in North America.

Live footage was being analyzed in Washington DC at the studio of filmmaker C. Eric Scott, while audio was being processed at a lab in North Carolina. The researchers are asking for others with expertise to analyze the UFO images and compare the audio themselves. Data is freely posted at: www.AreciboProject.com

When asked for his opinion of what the "beings" may be, Warren said:

"After my 7 years of research here, the accumulating evidence suggests we may be dealing with a new form of life in Puerto Rico. Sometimes huge, and sometimes small drones, I believe these beings could be a highly-advanced, extremely sleek and efficient organic/electronic hybrid. They have probably evolved much longer than humans, and are now capable of inter-stellar and inter-dimensional travel, seeming to pop in and out of our visible dimensions almost instantly. Hundreds of years of native lore, combined with our modern research, indicate they might be sensitive to human thought, often engaging in contact when a highly-focused human, or group of humans, telepathically projects a desire to interact with them. We don't know their ultimate agenda, but if it were detrimental to humans, we'd likely have been harmed by now."

Chupacabras Versus Chupacabras

My latest Mysterious Universe article is on the subject of the Chupacabras. Or, rather, it's on the subject of the two Chupacabras: the Puerto Rican original and the Texan equivalent. Are they the same animal? Are they totally different? And if the latter, how did they come to share the same name?

MIB, WIB, Monster

There's a new article from me at Mysterious Universe that focuses on one of the strangest stories to have come my way while searching for the Chupacabras on Puerto Rico.

Although I have now made a number of trips to the island, and uncovered a lot of weird tales, this one (told to me and Paul Kimball of Red Star Films in 2005) is very odd.

It starts like this:

"While the term 'Men in Black' is one that pretty much everyone understands – regardless of whether or not they have an interest in the UFO issue, conspiracy-theories, or Forteana in general – what about their female counterparts, the Women in Black, or WIB? Although reports are far more scarce, they do exist and are no less intriguing than the more well-known MIB. Indeed, back in 2005, I was caught up in the investigation of one such case…

"For years, sensational and sinister stories have surfaced from the forests and lowlands of Puerto Rico that tell of a strange and lethal creature roaming the landscape by night and day, while striking overwhelming terror into the hearts of the populace – which is not at all surprising since the animal has been described as having a pair of glowing red eyes, powerful, claw style hands, razor sharp teeth, a body not unlike that a monkey, a row of vicious spikes running down the length of its back, and occasionally, and of deep relevance to this particular chapter, a pair of large and leathery bat-like wings."
