A Trilogy of Pterodactyl Tales

Within the field of Cryptozoology, one of the strangest issues is that which revolves around claims that in various parts of the world pterodactyls still exist. Yes, it sounds totally crazy. But, there are plenty of such stories, some from very credible people.

I recently wrote a three-part series on such cases for Mysterious Universe, and here they are:

1. A 1982 wave of encounters in the north of England.

Tackling The (Living?) Pterodactyl

I take a look at stories of "living pterodactyls" in a new article that begins with a discussion of a certain piece of controversial footage that surfaced recently.

As I note in the article, I don't think it shows a pterodactyl at all.

But, it has definitely prompted a huge amount of debate.

I've even had people complaining and even upset because I'm skeptical of the film. A clear case of the "I want to believe" factor going into overdrive.

It's well made, and it's cool to see. But, no it's not a pterodactyl!

Weird Winged Things: Pennsylvania

Stan Gordon updates us on the latest wave of strange, flying creatures in his home state of Pennsylvania.

He begins:

"There has been a long history of giant bird sightings in Pennsylvania. The term 'Thunderbird” has been used to describe these generally very large, normally black or dark brown birds with massive wingspans. Not all of the descriptions of these flying cryptids however are the same. Some witnesses

"I have Interviewed in past years have stated that what they saw looked more like a giant bat.
Others reluctantly told me what they observed looked more prehistoric and similar to a pterodactyl or teratorn. More than one person told me that the huge flying creature they saw could only be described as a dragon. And yes, some who have witnessed these creatures have hesitantly used the term gargoyle.

"In recent months there has been a noticeable increase in reports of these mysterious flying creatures. The following is a brief summary of these reports that have come to my attention. I have received other such reports from the eastern region of the state but I have not been able to interview those involved."

Creating Our Own Reality

"As someone who has had far more than a few weird experiences over the years – particularly in relation to matters of a synchronistic nature – I often find myself pondering on reality. Or, perhaps, more correctly, pondering on what we consider to be reality. I can’t help feeling at times that we are living in (or, perhaps, trapped in!) a strange world of proportions not unlike those portrayed in The Matrix or Dark City. In both films, what passes for the real world is actually nothing of the sort.

"And it’s on the nature of reality that I want to focus right now. On more than a few occasions, I have come across examples where matters of a purely fictional nature seem to suddenly spring to life in the real world. If such things aren’t just down to random chance and coincidence (and I really don’t think they are), then there is something deeply strange afoot. I do not pretend to know how or why such things can be, but I can highlight two – of many – examples for you."

Pterodactyl Terrors

I don't know why, but for some odd reason a case popped into my head today that I haven't given any thought to in years - one involving a very weird, pterodactyl-type creature seen in England (yes, England) in 1982.

Just like its transatlantic cousins that are often reported soaring around the skies of the Texas-Mexico border, this one was as about as enigmatic and Fortean-driven as it possibly could be.

There are various accounts of the story on the Net, but here's a good one from Richard Holland.

Maybe I should stay alert in case there's some odd reason for this matter having caught my attention again...
